
The 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo will feature 116 medal events across 16 different sports. Around 2,900 athletes from more than 90 nations will set the stage for more than two weeks of events from racing to skating, sliding and skiing, among many other disciplines.

The United States (330) sits second on the all-time medal list entering 2026, ahead of European powers such as Germany (267) and Austria (250), with Canada sitting in fifth place at 225 medals.
Several of the world’s biggest winter sports stars headline the competition. Norway’s Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo will anchor the nation's cross-country skiing team, while Germany’s Francesco Friedrich will seek another historic bobsleigh sweep.
Alpine skiing again will feature two superstars in Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt and American standout Mikaela Shiffrin, while speed skating features Dutch star Jutta Leerdam and Italian legend Arianna Fontana on home ice.
Finally, ice hockey welcomes NHL players back to the Olympic stage for the first time since 2014, featuring as many as 146 total players from the National Hockey League spread over the rosters of 16 participating nations.
