Schneider, 53, finished his third season with the 49ers after joining head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff in 2022. He previously spent 11 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (2010-2020) and a one-season stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2021).
The 49ers' special teams performance under Schneider has been plagued by errors, including criticism surrounding kicker Jake Moody's inconsistent play this season, with missed field goals impacting several games.
Schneider's coaching career began at Colorado State (1994-2002), followed by positions at UCLA (2003–2005) and Iowa State (2006). His NFL journey started with the Oakland Raiders (2007–2008), and he later spent one season (2009) as USC's special teams coordinator before joining the Seahawks.
The 49ers wrapped up the 2024 season with a disappointing 6-11 record, landing in last place in the NFC West and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
