It may not have seemed like a blowout on the scoreboard, but the Philadelphia Eagles' offense and defense bounced back from their ugly loss to the Cleveland Browns last week with a 19-17 win over the New York Jets.
The Eagles' offense was still not as potent, but the rushing attack helped move the ball, gaining 79 yards on the ground and scoring one touchdown. Defensively, it was three turnovers and two sacks that made the difference for the Jets.
There was certainly a lot more winners on the Eagles side in the Jets matchup versus what happened against Cleveland a week ago.
It's rare to have a cornerback with the Eagles on a winners-losers article in a positive light, but Nickerson was an exception against the Jets. He had three tackles, one pass breakup, and a great interception. It was an up-and-down preseason for Nickerson, but he ended it on a high note.
Lamm had a rough night. Early in the game, he was getting beat time and time again at left tackle. On the first drive alone he allowed back-to-back pressures as the offense went three and out. It wasn't a great game for Lamm and now the question is whether he hurt himself enough to lose a roster spot, but as a veteran, he might still make it.
Granted, Bennett allowed catches in the game, but his coverage was as tight as it could be, and it was more about Jets receivers making good plays. Bennett racked up five tackles and had a pass deflection. With Adoree' Jackson not playing in the game, it could signal that he is going to be CB2, but Bennett certainly made an argument to still be in the conversation during the season.
Young was impressive for the Eagles, as he never made a flashy play, but he was remarkably efficient and involved in many plays early on. He was especially excellent at stopping the run. His two tackles in the game may not impress many, but it was an overall outstanding performance for a player battling for roster spots against others like Joe Evans and Gabe Hall.
If there was one rookie on this Eagles roster that needed a big game, it was Powell-Ryland. He was able to get a sack and a forced fumble in the win. Was it enough to help him make the 53-man roster? It's a possibility for sure.
