Quarterback recruiting is always on an earlier timeline and that’s why it’s good to see Michigan football getting some big-time quarterbacks on campus.

Ever since he took over as the quarterbacks coach, Kirk Campbell has been an asset on the recruiting trail. He played a key role in landing Jadyn Davis, a top-10 quarterback in the 2024 class, plus Carter Smith, who is ranked 153 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Even without huge NIL offerings in high school recruiting, Michigan has landed starting-caliber quarterbacks in each of the past two classes. Campbell is hoping to do that again in the 2026 class and another name that Michigan football fans should know is Ryder Lyons.

5-star QB to visit Michigan football

Out of Folsom, California, Lyons is the No. 9 overall prospect in the 2026 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound signal-caller also ranks second at his position.

The offer sheet is long and impressive. Georgia, Michigan, FSU, USC, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Washington, Texas A&M, and many others have offered. Ohio State and Alabama are two notable programs that haven’t offered at this point, but the competition is stiff.

Yet, Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider reports that Lyons will be visiting Michigan football this summer. He’s going to visit Ann Arbor in June and said, “Coach (Kirk) Campbell is one of my favorite coaches for sure.”

Michigan football is also going to get a visit from top-100 quarterback Brady Smigiel, so things are starting to heat up on the quarterback front.

Brady Hart, who is ranked 109th overall in the composite rankings for 2026, is another name to know. Campbell just visited him recently and according to Marich, the Wolverines are gaining traction there too.
