Abdul Carter says goodbye to the Eagles in a way they won’t like at all after getting drafted third overall by the Giants

Abdul Carter is officially ditching his hometown team Philadelphia Eagles

An hour before hearing his name in the 2025 NFL Draft, Penn State star defensive end Abdul Carter had a final message for Eagles fans.

"Unless something crazy happens, I'm no longer an Eagles fan," Carter said. "I'm Philly through and through, always going to be from Philly, and I'll never forget."

He then reiterated the message moments after he was drafted by the New York Giants at No. 3 overall.

"I'm all New York. Philly is going to have to be left behind. I'm all New York. Go Big Blue," Carter said.

The Eagles could have used Carter on their defensive line, but there was absolutely no way the projected top-five NFL draft pick would have lasted on the draft board until No. 32 overall in Round 1.

It's unfortunate for the Eagles, who not only lose a die-hard fan but will now have to deal with facing the stud edge rusher twice a year.

Carter enters the draft after racking up 68 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and 65 quarterback pressures for the Nittany Lions in 2024. His outstanding performance earned him first-team All-America honors and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award.

Abdul Carter Scouting Report

Edge Rusher, Penn State

Hometown:
Philadelphia, PA

21 years old (01/02/2004)

A to Z Sports Expected Draft Position: 2

Pre-Draft Round Projection: 1

"For a player who has only been playing edge defender for one season, you wouldn't be able to tell when watching Carter. He began his career as an inside linebacker for the Nittany Lions, but has morphed into a blue chip pass rusher. His combination of explosiveness, bend, closing speed, and versatility give him first round upside. The comparisons to former Penn State star Micah Parsons will only get louder. The Philadelphia native was rated as a consensus four star player by every major recruiting platform coming out of La Salle College High School, opting for the Nittany Lions over LSU, Michigan, Tennessee, and USC among others." - Ryan Robert A to Z Sports NFL Draft analyst
