Another college basketball program has hired a general manager in this changing age of college athletics.
On Friday, Syracuse hired Alex Kline, an NBA scout, as GM. Kline began his career in hoops as the founder of The Recruit Scoop. He then
“As we look to compete at the highest levels, bringing in Alex as our General Manager position is critical,” Autry said in a release. “This move aligns with our goal of being at the forefront of player evaluation, development and retention, recruiting, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) in college basketball. It will help Syracuse compete at the national level.”
He spent the past four years with the New York Knicks, assisting the front office as a talent evaluator and helping with the draft, the trade deadline, and free agency.
Syracuse defined the position as the following:
“A new position, the general manager will support Coach Autry in managing various aspects of the men’s basketball program at Syracuse. The primary responsibilities will include scouting and recruiting, former student-athlete engagement, Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, transfer portal management, and institutional fundraising in collaboration with University Advancement.”
Pitt does not have a general manager on staff. The Panthers’ staff, along with head coach Jeff Capel, includes Tim O’Toole (Associate Head Coach), Milan Brown (Associate Head Coach), Jason Capel (Assistant Coach), Kyle Cieplicki (Assistant Coach/Chief of Staff), Gilbert Brown (Director of Player and Alumni Development/Assistant Coach), Billy Hubly (Assistant AD Of Scouting), Brian Regan (Director of Basketball Operations), Vincent Williams (Head Strength and Conditioning Coach), Daniel Anthony (Athletic Trainer), Robert Blose (Assistant Director of Recruiting/Video), and Beth Schoedel (Administrative Assistant).
