According To Eddie Hearn, Tim Tszyu is Not ‘Elite Level’

Luck has not been on Tim Tszyu ’s (25-3, 18 KOs) side for the past year or so. Coming with an impressive unbeaten track record, the dawn of 2024 and 2025 saw Tszyu suffering a host of losses. And now, as three losses remain a sore reminder of his last four pugilistic outings, including two losses against Sebastian Fundora , his position in the echelon of the boxing world has certainly taken a massive hit. In fact, Matchroom Sport boss Eddie Hearn believes that these losses are an indication that Tszyu might just not be at an elite level yet.

In a conversation with Jai McAllister on his YouTube channel, Hearn remarked that the losses should serve as a wake-up call for Tszyu, who should, in turn, focus on rebuilding himself as a fighter.

“I really like Tim Tszyu. I think he’s really entertaining. What has been proven is he’s not good enough to fight and win at the elite level,” he said.

Tszyu faced the first loss of his professional career in March 2024, when he lost to Fundora via decision, in turn also losing his WBO junior middleweight title. This was quickly followed by a TKO loss to Bakhram Murtazaliev in October. While he got a sliver of redemption with a win against Joseph Spencer, his second loss to Fundora in July 2025 further added to the destabilization of his position.

These losses led many to believe that he has a hard time maintaining his composure under pressure. In fact, following his second loss to Fundora, Chris Mannix even exclaimed that he did not “show any new tools to handle the height or volume” and added that it seemed like a rerun of the first fight.

Hearn, however, has a word of advice for Tszyu’s future fights and stated that he should focus on rebuilding his career.

“It was a big blow. Fans are very quick to put you at the back of the queue. We’re not sure if he is elite world-class,” said Hearn. He’s got to make the investment now to come back. That, for me, is to have a couple of fights to get back in the winning groove. I don’t know about his training, but he’s had a lot of tough fights, and those fights take their toll.”

“He Was Carrying Some PTSD”

Meanwhile, Terence Crawford had a bit more of a sympathetic approach to Tszyu’s losses. Following his last loss to Fundora, Crawford stated that Tszyu should have taken a smarter route to victory.

“Tim’s a tough kid, but you could tell he was carrying some PTSD from those losses. He fought like he wanted to prove something, but he didn’t fight smart. Against a guy like Fundora, you need movement and a plan B. He had neither,” he said during the commentary.
