ACC/SEC Challenge: Wildcats Go Head-to-Head with Eagles

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will be hosting Boston College for the first-ever ACC/SEC Women’s Basketball Challenge on Thursday, November 30th. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. ET at the Clive M. Beck Center on the campus of Transylvania University. Fans can catch all the action on SEC Network, with Mark Neely and Holly Warlick providing commentary.

This will be UK’s first nationally televised game of the season, and for those unable to watch, you can listen to the radio broadcast on UK Sports Network and 630 AM WLAP, with Darren Headrick on the call.

The Wildcats are returning to the Clive M. Beck Center for the first time since their season opener on November 7th. In that game, Kentucky managed to hold off East Tennessee State with a narrow 74-66 victory. The team shot well, with all five starters scoring in double digits, something the program hasn’t seen since 2016. Kentucky shot 43.1 percent from the field in the game and an impressive 55.5 percent in the second half.

The Wildcats are entering this matchup after four games in seven days, all of which were played away from home. They faced Florida Gulf Coast and competed in the Paradise Jam Island Tournament against tough opponents such as No. 10/16 NC State, No. 3/4 Colorado, and Cincinnati.

Kentucky is currently in the midst of one of the toughest stretches any Southeastern Conference team will face in the nonconference season. In their first seven games, they will come up against six Power 5 opponents. That’s more Power 5 opponents than any other SEC team, except for South Carolina, who will face seven.

Despite these challenges, several UK players have proven they can hang with the best. Maddie Scherr is coming off a spectacular 25-point game against Cincinnati, tying the second-best performance of her career. The senior guard knocked down five 3-pointers, matching her career-high. Ajae Petty has excelled in rebounding this season, ranking second in the league with 65 rebounds and fourth in rebounds per game with 9.3. She is also the team’s second leading scorer, averaging 12.7 points per game and has recorded three double-doubles so far this season.

Seven Wildcats have scored at least 10 points in a game this season, including players like Amiya Jenkins, who set her career-high in scoring with 18 points against FGCU, and Eniya Russell, who also tied her career high with 14 points against Colorado. The team will be hoping for a solid performance from Brooklynn Miles, Zennia Thomas, and Saniah Tyler as well.

As the game against Boston College approaches, Kentucky is on the verge of reaching a significant milestone as they are just four wins away from their 900th program win, boasting an impressive 896-593 overall record.
