Someone has to win.

Kent State is the worst team in college football. It has yet to win a game, it hasn’t even been close in most games, and it even lost to St. Francis from the FCS.

Now it has two chances to come up with something to give the program something happy close on. Akron is beatable, and if it doesn’t happen here, there’s one more shot to get a win with Buffalo up a week later.

The Zips hasn’t won more than two games in a season since 2018 when it went 4-8. It might not seem like much, but a win against Kent State takes the program a step forward. It might be a small step, but it’s something positive before hosting Toledo in the season finale.

Why Akron Will Win

Kent State just doesn’t complete passes.

It did early in the season, but it hasn’t had a game hitting the half of the throws since September, and the ground game isn’t good enough to make up for it - there hasn’t been a rushing touchdown since mid-October.

Dead last in the nation in total offense, dead last in the nation in total and scoring defense, dead last in run D, and … if the Akron attack isn’t able to get going now, it never will. It should move the ball however it wants to, but …

Akron turns the ball over way too much.

It’s -11 in turnover margin, and it’s up to the Kent State defense to be even more aggressive and force a few mistakes that will make things a whole lot easier. It is actually possible for the Kent State offense to work, and when it came up with 461 yards it pushed Ball State in a close loss.
