Alabama DB coach explains approach to sending practice videos to recruits
Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK

Alabama football’s defensive backs coach and Co-DC, Maurice Linguist recently discussed the new Alabama staff’s approach to sending personal videos to recruits from practice.

Multiple recruits have shared the videos on social media. They typically include the coach sending a personal energetic message to a recruit while at practice. Linguist, Kane Wommack, Bryan Ellis and Chris Kapilovic have had their videos posted in recent weeks.

The thinking behind the idea is to help establish a ‘genuine’ connection with recruits and show them they are a priority.

“I think we are always trying to find ways to connect, always trying to find ways to make guys feel like they are a priority,” Linguist told reporters on Wednesday. “There is a lot of things that can make your successful as a recruiter…At the core of it, you are trying to genuinely connect with people. There is a process of identification. There is a process of recruiting. I think now in the NIL age, there is the process of retaining those talented players and then there is the development and growth and putting those guys in a situation that they can be successful. We are going to find every single way we can connect and have some fun with it. I think it has been received very well from a lot of guys.”

Alabama’s staff continues to build relationships with top recruits as their recruiting continues to trend upward after a big March.
