Alabama looking to improve run game by rotating offensive line

Alabama football has made it known it’s putting an emphasis on getting production out of its run game as the Crimson Tide prepare to crossover into SEC play following their BYE week.

The Alabama offense has rushed for 371 yards through three games and is ranked No. 14 in the SEC in that category. LSU and South Carolina are the only teams in the conference that have rushed for fewer yards.

The Tide’s running back, Jam Miller returning from injury, will be a welcome addition once he is given the green light to return to the field. In the meantime, Alabama is being proactive upfront to be able to have more success on the ground.

“Right now, we’re trying to find the right guys to go out there who have the physicality and intensity to actually go out there and gain some rushing yards and get our running backs to pop some of those runs,” Proctor said. “Because, sometimes it’s only one guy that loses the block and we get the TFL (tackle for loss). So, we need all five guys out there that know what they’re doing in the right lineup, and I know that they’re going to do that.”

Proctor is not a fan of having a rotation of guys playing throughout the season, but he understands the benefit of rotating guys up front in the early season.

“I don’t think it’s good to have rotation throughout the whole season, because you have to have that camaraderie between all five of them to be at one,” Proctor said. “But earlier in the season, I guess it’s okay to have that rotation. And we’ve shown that we can win with those rotations going on, so I guess it’s not bad right now, but once we get into those tougher teams, we need those five, and we need to stick with them.”

Alabama’s offensive coaches now continue to put a focus on reconstructing the Tide’s offensive line to help launch their run game with the best five offensive linemen they can play together.
