Alabama OC Ryan Grubb sends message to Tide quarterbacks

Alabama football’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb wants the Crimson Tide’s quarterbacks to know there is still work left to be done.

Grubb and Kalen DeBoer are keeping Alabama’s three-way quarterback battle an open competition. Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell remain in contention for the starting quarterback role heading into the summer.

Simpson is the confirmed frontrunner at the moment. Grubb shared Simpson would get the start if Alabama played a football game ‘tomorrow’ while speaking with reporters earlier this week. Grubb also let his quarterbacks know they have to ‘be better’ in the future.

“There is still a lot of work to be done,” Grubb said. “I think the message really is that we got to be even better. I know they will take that the right way and understand those things but essentially we are not going to be satisfied with the quarterback room until it is how it is suppose to be, and it wasn’t perfect this spring. I thought we were trending the right way the entire time. The competitive spirit and the acknowledgement of each other as a competitor in that room was very mature, honestly, and it could have been very different than that. I am blessed to work with those guys ever day. I am fired up. We got three really good quarterbacks.”

The outcome of the Tide’s quarterback battle will shape the entire outlook of Alabama’s offense in 2025.
