Fede Alvarez will return to the Alien universe, says Steve Asbell at 20th Century Studios in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that we haven't seen the last of Alvarez's imagining for the iconic franchise.

Asbell revealed, "We're working on a sequel idea now" for Alien: Romulus, the film from Alvarez that was released in the summer to high praise from critics and audiences alike, making $350.7 million during its theatrical run.

That theatrical run wasn't always in the plan, however, as Asbell spoke on the initial intention to send this film to streaming, saying, "We started development when we were in COVID, and it wasn't clear what our strategy was going to be theatrical or streaming."

Alien: Romulus follows Cailee Spaeny as Rain, joined by a fabulous young ensemble cast which includes David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu as space colonists aboard an abandoned space station where horror awaits.

Following the film's success, Asbell revealed that we can expect a return to that world.

"We haven't quite closed our deal with Fede, but we are going to, and he has an idea that we're working on," Asbell told THR.

We can even expect the return of Spaeny and Jonsson Asbell says, "The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, were real highlights of the film. And so I always think of it like, “Wow, where do people want to see them go next?” We know there's going to be aliens. We know there's going to be great horror set pieces. But I fell in love with both of them and I want to see what their story is."

Exactly when we can expect to see that project come to fruition is still yet to be determined.
