Wallace Sititi has extended his contract with the Chiefs and New Zealand Rugby, committing his future through the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
The 2024 World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year is widely considered one of the brightest young talents in world rugby. Since making his Super Rugby debut last season, Sititi has rapidly climbed the ranks, earning nine caps for the All Blacks in 2024 and drawing global attention with his physicality, work rate, and skill set.
His decision to remain in New Zealand comes at a critical time for the national game. With several senior All Blacks taking overseas deals and sabbaticals, Sititi’s commitment is seen as a significant boost to the country’s long-term ambitions.
New Zealand Rugby has been under increasing pressure to retain its top young talent amid heavy recruitment efforts from French and Japanese clubs. The Blues, for example, have already bid farewell to a front-row veteran reportedly heading to France. Sititi’s extension signals a win for the domestic system, particularly as he is tipped to play a central role in the 2027 campaign.
The Chiefs are also seen as big beneficiaries. With head coach Clayton McMillan exiting at the end of the season, Sititi’s presence provides continuity and leadership for the squad’s next phase. His re-signing suggests that the franchise has succeeded in creating an environment that can both develop and retain elite talent.
At just 21 years old, Sititi is already influencing games at the highest level. Analysts view him as a future leader in the national setup, and his staying put will offer much-needed stability during a period of transition for the All Blacks.
With Sititi locked in, New Zealand Rugby keeps a key building block firmly in place.
