In response to feedback on initial performance assessments, AMD is rumored to be making substantial changes to the upcoming Ryzen 7 9700Z processor, potentially doubling its TDP to enhance performance ahead of its rumored July launch date.

AMD is rumored to be upgrading the Ryzen 7 9700X, potentially transforming it into a powerhouse within the forthcoming Zen 5 lineup. This development follows AMD's earlier admission that the Ryzen 9000 series won't top the charts for gaming, particularly when stacked against the existing 700localctx participants noted that a specific AMD executive stated the Ryzen 7800X3D would surpass the 9700X in gaming scenarios.

According to details from industry insiders reported by Wccftech, AMD has been communicating updates to partners, possibly spurred by dissatisfaction with the initial performance assessments of the 9700X. A major change under consideration is boosting the processor’s Thermal Design Power (TDP) from 65W to an assertive 120W. This nearly doubles its power consumption and signifies a substantial enhancement in performance and clock speeds.

This move to increase the TDP so close to its rumored launch at the end of July poses a significant risk. Higher TDP not only amplifies performance but also increases thermal output, which might necessitate major revisions in the processor's design.
