The Wisconsin basketball team will look a lot different next year. Earlier this week, star wing AJ Storr entered the NBA Draft while maintaining his eligibility, but didn’t mention entering the transfer portal, giving Wisconsin fans hope that if he didn’t enter the draft, he would come back to Madison.
Today, it was announced that Storr would also be entering the transfer portal.
If we are being honest with ourselves, it was mostly a forgone conclusion that Storr would enter the transfer portal. There are a ton of reports of other programs offering him a lot of money to play for them, should he decide to pull out of the NBA Draft.
Wisconsin Basketball Star AJ Storr Goes Portaling
This is how life is in college athletics. Players can move around freely for any reason. For some, it’s playing time, wanting to be closer to home, or simply chasing the bag, trying to capitalize on their time as a college athlete.
AJ Storr had a very successful tenure as a member of the Wisconsin basketball team. He saw his game grow significantly from when he stepped foot on campus at the beginning of the year. He became an All-Big Ten player and gave fans a ton of highlight plays in his year as a Badger.
But when you are that successful at a school like Wisconsin, there are going to be some blue-bloods that start calling, or in this case, offering you a ton of cash. This move by AJ Storr was not surprising nor much of a secret.
While AJ Storr has entered the portal, that doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t come back to the Badgers. There are reports that the Wisconsin basketball team has been competitive with NIL deals with other players, like 5-star prospect, and Wisconsin native, Kon Kneuppel, who ultimately still chose Duke over Wisconsin.
If the bag is truly what Storr is chasing, he may be able to get his cake and eat it too with the Badgers. They could offer him a deal sweet enough to stick around if he liked being a part of the Wisconsin basketball program. He was the focal point of the Badgers offensively all year, leading the team with 16.8 points per game.
The question is, would that be enough to keep him, or has he already made up his mind?
