Analyst pitches quarterback with Chip Kelly ties to Raiders

Suddenly, the Las Vegas Raiders have a bit of a quarterback controversy on their hands.

Aidan O’Connell endured a difficult preseason, and it got worse after Saturday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. During his time in the game, O’Connell suffered an apparent injury to his throwing hand, which was later diagnosed as a wrist fracture. The injury takes 6-8 weeks to heal, meaning the third-year quarterback is certainly going to begin the season on injured reserve.

The Raiders now have to look at some of their options to add to the room, but one analyst has an idea on a potential target.

A local product could be coming home to play for the Raiders.

According to Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, the Raiders could look into adding Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who was waived by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson played under Chip Kelly at UCLA.

Eagles have 4 QBs.

Since Moton’s tweet, the Eagles have traded for Sam Howell of the Minnesota Vikings, effectively pushing Thompson-Robinson off the roster.

Jalen Hurts is the unquestioned starter, while Tanner McKee is expected to be his backup. Howell is the third-stringer, while sixth-round rookie Kyle McCord is likely to find his way on the practice squad. That ultimately made Thompson-Robinson expendable to the Eagles.

While the former UCLA and Bishop Gorman product has struggled at the NFL level (880 yards, one touchdown, ten interceptions), there are not many remaining options that have his playing experience.

With the Raiders needing to add some depth, Thompson-Robinson is a name to consider before the 53-man roster cutoff date on Tuesday.
