Andrei Arlovski has addressed the incident that went viral, where he appeared to get into a physical altercation with streamer Jack Doherty and his crew.
The former UFC heavyweight champion was spotted at the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua event, where he crossed paths with Doherty and his group. The encounter was captured on video and quickly spread across social media, racking up millions of views.
The 22-year-old influencer took to social media to claim he was the victim in the situation, sharing his perspective online. Arlovski has now responded with his own statement to fans via social media.
Doherty, who has built a reputation online for stirring up trouble while leaning on his security team, found himself in an unexpected situation during the Paul vs. Joshua event in Miami when he crossed paths with Arlovski.
The Long Island native was livestreaming from the Kaseya Center, capturing the moment he encountered Arlovski. The former champion was there with his family and friends. Whether or not Doherty intended to provoke him remains unclear.
Arlovski explained on Instagram: “First of all, I didn’t beat anyone, I just stopped the threat. They were threatening me, my wife, my kid and I have another friend [who was there]. I did what I was supposed to do, what every man is supposed to do. Stop the threat.
“I didn’t beat them. I just stopped the threat… I guess because they were looking for content for their website and I guess I was the victim. They thought maybe it was going to be easy content for YouTube. Maybe that’s why. Maybe I’m old. Maybe because it was three idiots and a big bodyguard.
“Actually it’s kind of weird because I saw him walking but I didn’t pay attention, he said he might be with him and he kind of landed one punch. I have to be more alert and pay attention to people that come around. That’s the lesson.”
The former UFC champion also addressed the punch he received: “That guy he was sneaky. He sucker punched me and I didn’t accept this f—ing punch, to be honest with you. They just tried to film some content I guess. [Doherty] was successful at hiding behind his bodyguard’s back and ran away.”
