During an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, two-time WNBA All-Star Angel Reese said she’s “willing to go in there and get a black eye” to help the Chicago Sky win games.
Reese, one of the top rebounders in the WNBA, will never shy away from doing the “dirty work” for the Sky.
“You always need a player that’s on a team that’s willing to do the dirty work,” Reese said. “And I’m always willing to do the dirty work however I got to get it. We have great stars on our team that can do a lot of great things, but I mean, not a lot of times people want to do the dirty work.
“So I’m willing to go in there and get a black eye. I mean, I’ve been injured a lot, so obviously, I’m in there banging for sure. So just continue to do whatever I can for the team just to help us win.”
Reese has appeared in 25 games for the Sky this season. She’s averaging 14.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.6 blocks while shooting 46.2% from the field, 20.0% from beyond the arc and 79.4% from the free-throw line. The LSU product has 18 double-doubles and one triple-double.
“I just try to perfect my own craft,” Reese said. “I think everybody has their own pace. Everybody wants me to do everything on their time and I do things at my own time and I don’t let anybody speed me up. I continue to work. I know I put my head down and work.”
Reese was the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The Sky will miss the playoffs again this year, but they have a bright future with Reese and Kamilla Cardoso leading the way.
The 23-year-old Reese has career averages of 14.0 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.5 blocks with Chicago. The Maryland native’s first signature shoe with Reebok drops on September 18.
