According to Artem Anisimov’s agent, don’t believe everything you hear and/or read, at least when it comes to his client. Todd Diamond is denying rumors that the Ottawa Senators forward may be making plans to leave the NHL att the end of the season and bolt for the KHL.

Anisimov hasn’t exactly had the best season. 8 points in 18 games isn’t bad, but the injuries have played a role in 2020-21 and his 20 points in 49 games last season don’t exactly scream big-time contract extension. As a pending UFA and with an expiring deal that pays him $4.5 million per season, Anisimov will need to convince the Senators (or another team) to give him a deal in a flat cap salary NHL. That won’t be easy. As such, reports have surfaced the player is likely headed to Russia to continue his hockey career.

It wouldn’t be shocking if the 32-year-old decided to move on. He’s likely to get a better deal in the KHL than he will in the NHL. That said, his agent,Todd Diamond denies any speculation he may leave the league and try his look internationally. Diamond notes, “His only focus is to continue his career in the NHL.”

Where the rumors started that he’s pegged to sign with a team in the KHL is unknown and some are wonderin gif this could be a leverage tactic for negotiations with clubs from either league. But, the report suggests he’s aleady committed, so a leverage play seems like a bit of a reach. It could be a situation where, if an NHL team doesn’t show interest, he’s got a backup plan in place.

Regardless, it’s very likely the Senators are moving. as will Anisimov.
