AP Top 25 Prediction Week 7: Penn State the Poll's Big Test

Here's the big test for the AP Top 25 rankings.

Just how thorough is this bunch? If it gets it right, it should rank Florida - whose only losses were to LSU, Miami, and USF - ahead of Texas. That's probably not going to happen.

Penn State is the bigger test. The Nittany Lions were seventh in last week's rankings, but with no wins of note, they should be ranked below UCLA, who should be below New Mexico, Northwestern, UNLV, Utah, and a whole slew of others like Akron, San Jose State, etc.

It's not easy, but on the field, Penn State hasn't earned a spot. But that's not usually how the AP rankings roll. There's a chance for the voters to get this right, but ...
