The Cleveland Cavaliers recently announced that Max Strus is out for approximately three to four months due to a serious leg injury he sustained this offseason.
“Cleveland Cavaliers forward Max Strus underwent successful surgery today to repair a Jones Fracture (fifth metatarsal) in his left foot, suffered recently during offseason training. The procedure was performed by Dr. David Porter in consultation with Cavaliers team physician Dr. James Rosneck at Forte Sports Medicine and Orthopedics in Indianapolis (IN),” the team’s official statement wrote.
“Strus is expected to resume basketball activities in approximately three to four months. His status will be updated as appropriate.”
Strus was a key player for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, averaging 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists on 44/39/82 shooting clips across 50 regular season appearances (37 starts).
The Cleveland Cavaliers could explore the idea of signing free agent Malik Beasley this summer to fill in for Max Strus. And according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, they are among the teams that are interested in the nine-year journeyman.
“The Knicks and Cavaliers have checked in on Malik Beasley, sources told @hoopshype. Knicks executive Gersson Rosas signed Beasley to a four-year, $60M deal with the Timberwolves. Knicks and Cavs have minimum deals to offer. Beasley is no longer a target of a federal investigation,” Scotto reported.
Beasley is coming off one of the most productive seasons of his career, as he averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists on 43.0 percent shooting from the field and 41.6 percent from three-point land. The 28-year-old was a Sixth Man of the Year candidate.
