Arch Manning has been under the microscope since the moment he picked up a football, and for good reason. As the nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning and the grandson of college football star Archie Manning, the pressure of the family name has followed him at every step.
Yet, despite being one of the most high-profile recruits in recent memory, Arch Manning didn’t see much action last season for the Texas Longhorns. He spent the year behind Quinn Ewers, learning the offense and staying ready. With Ewers now off to the NFL, Arch Manning enters 2025 as Texas’ new QB1, and the spotlight is hotter than ever.
But if you’re still calling him a “nepo baby,” Andy Staples has a message for you.
“He’s more athletic than Peyton and Eli ever were,” Staples said.
Speaking on "The Jim Rome Show," Staples continued and shared a quote that flipped the narrative on its head:
“If Arch’s last name wasn’t Manning, he would just be a 6-4 dude with a rocket arm and great speed … playing with incredible playmakers coached by an offensive genius. That’s all he would be.”

Staples pointed out that Arch has both the physical tools and the mental game to thrive at the college level — regardless of his famous last name. He even noted that Arch’s father, Cooper Manning, was the most athletic of the Manning brothers before a spinal condition ended his playing days prematurely.
“Arch also has a good arm too,” Staples added. “So I’m really excited to see what this offense looks like with him really turned loose.”
With elite athleticism, strong family mentorship and the full reins of the Longhorns’ offense now his, Arch Manning has the chance to let his play speak louder than his name ever could.
The Longhorns' first game of the Manning era will be on the road against the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes at noon ET Aug. 30 on Fox.
