We have heard for the past week that the Washington Commanders were looking to deal running back Brian Robinson Jr., with the franchise willing to listen to offers for B-Rob, who is in the final year of his rookie contract.
And the San Francisco 49ers answered the call.
Robinson Jr. moves to the NFC West in exchange for "just" a sixth-round pick in 2026, which we think is a little light.
B-Rob has rushed for over 700 yards in each of his three seasons, with last year (799 yards, eight touchdowns) being his best return.
Still, Washington felt like it needed to move on.
But was it a mistake?
Austin Ekeler, Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Chris Rodriguez, and Jeremy McNichols are the running backs now tasked with helping Jayden Daniels get to the Super Bowl in Year 2.
But is that group enough?
Ekeler is 30 years old, while Rodriguez and McNichols (29 years old, too) only combined for 434 yards and six touchdowns from 90 carries last season, although they did average 4.8 yards per carry combined, too.
Given that Robinson Jr. started 13 games last season, the Commanders coaching staff must be high on the group they have to move on from Brian and only get a sixth-round pick in return.
We are a little skeptical that this group of backs can do enough in the run game to noy have the loss of Robinson felt. Of course, Deebo Samuel will help, but Kliff Kingsbury will use him sparingly in that role we think.
It is a big call from the Commanders. Let's see if it was the right one.
