TEMPE — Saturday’s game against West Virginia is more than just a homecoming for Arizona State, as the result could carry significant postseason stakes.

ASU has been hovering near the cutoff line for bowl eligibility, with a 4-2 record in Big 12 play, and Saturday may be the game that either keeps its Big 12 playoff aspirations alive or ends its title defense. It will be a test of resilience, identity and, above all, urgency.

Injuries have dominated conversation around the program, with several key starters sidelined for extended periods. Even so, the Sun Devils haven’t shied away from the challenge. With little margin for error, the team must now capitalize on its home-field advantage and use it as leverage.

Arizona State performs better at home, averaging 28.2 points in Tempe compared with 20.3 on the road. That level of production will be necessary against West Virginia, whose defense thrives on pressure, ranking 15th nationally on forced turnovers.

Saturday’s game is sold out, marking the sixth consecutive home game with a packed stadium to energize the team. Fans will be cheering, but it’s up to ASU to turn that support into fuel.

Players who have been called on to step up this season will need to deliver, especially in a game that could shape their future.

ASU will have everything to play for against West Virginia. Whether the outcome preserves postseason aspirations or leaves the season defined by what-ifs will be up to the team.
