The No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks (8-1) showcased their resilience on Friday afternoon, overcoming an eight-run deficit to defeat the Charlotte 49ers (4-4) by a score of 11-10 at Baum-Walker Stadium. A monumental 10-run fourth inning powered the Razorbacks to victory, marking their largest comeback in nearly eight seasons.

Explosive Fourth Inning Turns the Tide

After falling behind 9-1, the Razorbacks needed a spark—and they got it in historic fashion. The fourth inning saw Arkansas send 16 batters to the plate, recording eight hits, three walks, and two hit batters. Logan Maxwell led off the inning with a solo home run, but at that point, the Razorbacks still faced a daunting 9-2 deficit.

As the lineup cycled through, Maxwell found himself back at the plate with an RBI single that cut Charlotte’s lead to 9-7. Kuhio Aloy then delivered the game’s defining moment with a bases-clearing double to right-center, giving Arkansas a 10-9 lead. Cam Kozeal capped off the remarkable inning with an RBI single up the middle, which proved to be the game-winning run.

Offensive Firepower Continues for Arkansas

The Razorbacks have been on an offensive tear, scoring 33 runs in their last three games. Head coach Dave Van Horn has emphasized finding the right offensive mix, and his lineup responded in force. Eight different players recorded at least one hit, and six drove in at least one run in Friday’s game.

“This team is pretty tough,” Van Horn said. “I like the makeup of the team, and they have a little bit of an attitude.”

Pitching Struggles and Resilience on the Mound

Starting pitcher Gabe Gaeckle had a rough outing, allowing nine runs before being pulled. Entering the game, he had surrendered just 13 earned runs in his entire college career, but his season ERA skyrocketed from 1.69 to 7.24 after Friday’s game.

“He didn’t have a good day,” Van Horn admitted. “He didn’t have a great day last weekend either. He’ll get another start before we open conference play, and hopefully, it’ll be a good one.”

Despite the early struggles, junior reliever Dylan Carter stepped up for the second consecutive week, earning the win to improve to 3-0 on the season. His performance out of the bullpen stabilized the game, allowing the Razorbacks to mount their historic comeback.

Looking Ahead

With the series opener secured, Arkansas looks to carry its momentum into the remainder of the series against Charlotte. The Razorbacks remain unbeaten at home, and with their offense firing on all cylinders, they aim to continue their dominance at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Fans can expect more fireworks as Arkansas seeks to add to its impressive early-season resume and build upon Friday’s thrilling victory.
