It isn't often that you see the Arkansas Razorbacks in battles for some of the best football players in the country. But it is often you see them competing for basketball and baseball players who are considered the best in the country.

And now, they are in the running for a guy who plays two of those sports.

Razorbacks in the running for Matt Ponatoski

Matt Ponatoski is one of the best athletes in the entire country. He is a top two-sport athlete in football and baseball, and as a quarterback, he was named 2024 Ohio Mr. Football and Gatorade Ohio Football Player of the Year. Believe it or not, he also won the title for baseball as well.

He holds records for his school's career passing yards with 7,639, season passing yards, career passing touchdowns with 87, and season passing touchdowns. Ponatoski is a four-star recruit, and he’s ranked the No. 8 quarterback and No. 6 Ohio recruit in the 2026 class by On3, with offers from Michigan, Arkansas, Oregon, Alabama, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt.

In baseball, Ponatoski is Ohio’s No. 1 high school baseball player in the 2026 class. A left-handed shortstop and pitcher, he has a .414 career batting average, five home runs, 56 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases. Ranked No. 16 nationally by Baseball America, he’s uncommitted but plans to play both sports in college.

That's where Arkansas comes in. The Hogs are a baseball school, as they are currently waiting to play Tennessee in the Super Regional on Saturday. They have had the most success recently in baseball, with maybe basketball being thrown in there as well, with a few Elite Eight appearances.

But football, like many schools around the country, is the school that makes them the most money. They haven't seen a ton of success in football over the last few years, but they have a ton of history that makes them an important factor in the SEC.

Getting a guy like Ponatoski would help them with both of the sports that they cherish the most, outside of basketball.
