Ashton Jeanty Hints at Massive Price He Had to Pay to Get Jersey Number

The Las Vegas Raiders have seemingly solved their running back issues, as No. 6 overall pick Ashton Jeanty is set to be the team's workhorse back. He'll be accompanied by veteran Raheem Mostert and promising back Sincere McCormick, which is a far better group than last year's tandem of Zamir White and Alexander Mattison.

Jeanty famously wore the No. 2 at Boise State in college, which earned him the nickname "Deuce." However, when he joined the Silver and Black, All-Pro kicker Daniel Carlson already had the jersey number.

As these things typically go in the NFL, Jeanty paid Carlson for the number, so now both parties are seemingly happy.

The exact price that he paid Carlson may never come to the light, but Jeanty spoke recently on the Up & Adams Show about how the negotiations went down. He even hinted that he paid a massive price for his coveted No. 2.

"I called him, I was like, 'I'm trying to get that number 2, I'm willing to negotiate,'" Jeanty said. "So you could probably buy a house (with the money). Like a nice sized house. ... A nice Mercedes ... The good thing is that some of the money is going to be given to charity as well."

Given Jeanty's four-year, $35.9 million contract, he could easily afford to pay Carlson something in this range. It is a family number and holds sentimental value for Jeanty, which makes the price worth it for the young star.

The added bonus is that some of the money will be given to charity, which is a testament once again to the high-character players that new head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek are bringing in to Las Vegas. Carlson will now wear No. 8, and he may even have a nice new house to pair with it.
