ASU Football announce home game themes throughout 2024 season in Big 12

Every year, ASU Football normally has theme games during the season to create a wild environment inside Mountain America Stadium as well as pay respect to those who have helped the surrounding communities around the school.

On the Sun Devils’ opening night at home, Arizona State will face Wyoming on Aug. 31 and they want fans to wear gold. ASU will host Wyoming for the first time since 1977 and is 9-6 all-time against the Cowboys. Wyoming won the 2023 Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl over Toledo last season, going 9-4 overall.

The Sun Devils will then take on Mississippi State on Sept. 7 during Faculty/Staff Appreciation and City of Tempe Night. At 7:30 p.m., the game will be broadcasted on ESPN. Mississippi State ended the 2023 calendar with a 5-7 record.

Following a bye week, ASU will host its first Big 12 home game on Oct. 5 when they take on Kansas on Family Weekend in the Hall of Fame Game, Hispanic Heritage and Green Game. Arizona State and Kansas have never played each other. Late last year in Phoenix, the Jayhawks were the 2023 Guaranteed Rate Bowl champions after winning in the highest-scoring game of the bowl season, 49-36 over UNLV.

To create a blackout in Tempe, Sun Devil nation will wear black on Youth Football Night when they go up against former Pac-12 rivals Utah on Oct. 11. The Utes finished fifth in the Pac-12 with an 8-5 record while ASU was 10th. Utah has won the last four meetings against one another even though ASU is 22-12 all-time against them.

Arizona State will then welcome UCF to the Valley on Nov. 9 for the Salute to Service game. The Sun Devils crushed UCF in their first and only meeting, 46-13 in 2002. The Knights lost to Georgia Tech last season in the 2023 Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl, 30-17.

And to wrap up the slate of home games, ASU’s Homecoming, Senior Day, Sun Devil Club and Junior Sun Devil Club Game will be a battle between the Sun Devils and BYU. Arizona State is 20-8 all-time against the Cougars, not having played each other since 1998 in Provo, Utah. In its first season transitioning from an independent program into the Big 12, BYU struggled as they went 2-7 in the conference and 5-7 overall in 2023.
