Coming out of the 2025 NFL Draft, one of the stories was the draft slide of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. He was projected to be selected in the first round by many prognosticators but would fall to the fifth round and be selected by the Cleveland Browns. However, the Atlanta Falcons were tied into some drama as a prank call to Sanders would happen and be recorded. Let’s take a look as the Atlanta Falcons and the person responsible for the prank call have released statements regarding the situation.

Atlanta Falcons coach’s son prank-called Shedeur Sanders

The prank call on Shedeur Sanders was one of the stories that came out during the 2025 NFL Draft as he was issued a league-issued phone number for teams to contact him for the draft. However, during Day 1 of the NFL Draft on Thursday, he received a prank call on that phone as a pair of Ole Miss students pretended to be the general manager of the New Orleans Saints while the team was on the clock.

The video of the prank call would go on social media and one of the people on the video would be identified as Jax Ulbrich, the son of defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. The Atlanta Falcons would send out a statement on Sunday afternoon regarding the prank call of Shedeur Sanders during the 2025 NFL Draft.

“Earlier in the week, Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, unintentionally came across the draft contact phone number for Shedeur Sanders off an open iPad while visiting his parent’s home and wrote the number down to later conduct a prank call. Jeff Ulbrich was unaware of the data exposure or any facets of the prank and was made aware of the above only after the fact.

The Atlanta Falcons do not condone this behavior and send our sincere apologies to Shedeur Sanders and his family, who we have been in contact with to apologize to, as well as facilitate an apology directly from Jax to the Sanders family. We have also been in contact with the NFL and will continue to cooperate fully with any inquiries we may receive from the NFL league office. We are thoroughly reviewing all protocols, and updating if necessary, to help prevent an incident like this from happening again.”

This would not be the only side to issue a public statement as Jax Ulbrich would go on Instagram and post his own apology, which is embedded below.

It is unclear if there will be any punishment or fines associated with this for the Atlanta Falcons. Jeff Ulbrich was hired as the team’s defensive coordinator this offseason after being the interim coach for the New York Jets after the team fired Robert Saleh.
