Leinster’s women’s rugby has a new leader as Ben Martin steps in as head coach, succeeding Tania Rosser.

“We are delighted to have Ben come on board to take the Leinster’s Women’s side for this season, Ben brings a wealth of knowledge and experience into the role having been involved with the Wolfhounds in the Celtic Challenge,” Head of Rugby Development Philip Lawlor said in a club statement.

Philip believes that with a significant number of players involved in the World Cup, it’s great having Ben working with young lads.

Ben acknowledged the chance to unearth some diamonds that haven’t been found yet within the pathways of the women’s rugby.

“It’s an exciting time obviously with a Women’s World Cup on the Horizon, it would be interesting couple of months ahead,” Ben said on Leinster’s Instagram video.

Martin is a former Australian Sevens player with a strong coaching record, including an All-Ireland League (AIL) title with UL Bohemians and a recent Celtic Challenge victory.

“I am so excited, it’s a big challenge there is a nice history in here with Leinster being back to back champions, it would be tough,” Ben said on Leinster’s Instagram post

Ben guided Blackrock College RFC’s Women’s team to two AIL finals, lifting the title in the 2022/2023 season.

Martin is enthusiastic about the opportunity to find promising new players and continue Leinster’s winning streak, acknowledging the pressure of being the reigning back-to-back interprovincial champions.

His coaching team will include Michelle Claffey and Charlie Doel, focusing on back and forwards, respectively. Leinster’s title defense begins against Ulster on August 10th at Energia Park.
