Bangladesh’s star opener Tamim Iqbal has been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League match. The 36-year-old was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in a 50-over match against Shinepukur Cricket Club at BKSP on Monday when he suddenly experienced chest pain.

Tamim initially received medical attention from on-field doctors but was soon rushed to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

"He complained of chest pain and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he underwent an ECG," Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed.

"In the first blood test, there was a concern. He said he was feeling uncomfortable and wanted to return to Dhaka. An ambulance was called, and when he was returning to the field from the hospital, he felt chest pain again. He was then brought back to the hospital, where it was determined that he had suffered a massive heart attack. He is now under observation at Fazilatunnesa Hospital."

Tamim was present for the toss and took the field but later complained of discomfort. BCB’s board of directors immediately rushed to Savar, rescheduling their scheduled meeting.

In an official statement, the BCB later confirmed that Tamim underwent a successful angiogram to address a blockage in one of his arteries.

BCB Statement on Tamim’s Health

"We are very thankful to all the medics and specialists for their swift actions in this critical situation," BCB President Faruque Ahmed said. "The outpouring of concern for Tamim reflects how much he is loved and appreciated by the nation.

"The BCB is closely monitoring his health and remains in constant contact with the hospital’s medical team. The board is committed to providing every support and assistance to ensure Tamim's swift recovery."
