Barcelona coach Xavi says he can understand Frenkie de Jong's outburst yesterday.

De Jong hit out at the press during his Champions League presser over claims about his salary and his future at Barca.

In response, Xavi later said: "I understand De Jong perfectly. Any footballer and person who is at Bara feels injustice because many times lies are told. For me he is fundamental, but it depends on the club. He has been very happy with us and is crucial for my scheme."

He also stated: "We do not blame the press for the results. It is not our excuse. But sometimes you feel injustice because things are said that are not true. But it is not an excuse. We have to play better and compete better and De Jong would have said that because he is a very honest person.

"It has happened to me as a footballer and coach. We do not blame the press for the results, I have never said this."
