The Eden Prairie edition of a boys basketball showcase featuring some of the best prep school players from the Upper Midwest was canceled due to overcrowding.

There was a large police response as problems began to emerge Saturday afternoon at Eden Prairie High School, which was one of several Twin Cities gyms hosting a slate of games from Prep Hoops North's annual "Battle of the Lakes."

Prep Hoops posted an update at 7:25 p.m. confirming that the Eden Prairie games were canceled for Saturday, and an update would be provided at a later time.

It comes after multiple reports of scuffles breaking out within the gym, though this was played down by Eden Prairie High School, which said the cancellation related more to the event being over-capacity, though it did note there was issues "managing attendee behavior."

The evening's proceedings were canceled before the main event: a much-anticipated clash between a Minnesota super team of the state's best high school players and AAU internet sensations the Rod Wave Elite – led by basketball YouTuber Cam Wilder and whose players include five-star Kentucky commit Jasper Johnson and Jermaine O'Neal Jr., son of formerNBA star Jermaine O'Neal.

"Prep Hoops North rented space at Eden Prairie High School following our district’s normal rental process. Unfortunately, they did not follow our rental agreement, including managing attendee behavior, and capacity exceeded what was allowed by the Eden Prairie Fire Department," Eden Prairie High School said.

"When we became aware of this situation, we collaborated with the Eden Prairie Police Department to secure the facility and end the event to ensure the safety of all attendees."

An earlier post from the high school stated that Sunday's schedule in Eden Prairie is also canceled "due to capacity concerns."

Eden Prairie PD confirmed that the shutdown was due to an "over-capacity crowd" at the high school, with officers called to the campus at 5:49 p.m. Saturday.

"While several minor scuffles broke out as officers were dispersing crowds, there were no large-scale fights, and no reported injuries. No arrests were made," a statement from Eden Prairie PD said.

"All activities related to the tournament are canceled for the evening and also for tomorrow."
