On Wednesday evening, Scott Drew and the Baylor Bears added a new player to their roster with the commitment of Nigerian big man Ramon “Mayo” Soyoye.
Soyoye, a 6-foot-10 center in the Class of 2025, was raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and is fresh off his senior season at Blair Academy.
The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman was the first to report the news, saying, “Soyoye will join the Bears in June and play this season. Will provide rebounding, shot-blocking, and an inside presence. The 6-10 Soyoye is from Nigeria, was raised in Atlanta, and took official visits to Maryland, Villanova, and Baylor.”
Soyoye spoke with 247Sports’ Dushawn London about his background and ability in February, saying, “I’m an athletic hustle player who dives for loose balls and gets rebounds. I’m not really a scorer, but I can come in, set screens, and make plays for my team.”
“I’m looking for a college program that develops me,” Soyoye continued. “It’s okay if I don’t go in and start right away. I can be on the bench, but I’m ready to develop my game to the college level. This whole process is new to me. This is only my fourth year playing basketball, so I’m learning everything along the way.”
With his commitment, Soyoye became the third addition to Baylor’s Class of 2025, joining Tounde Yessoufou and Andre Iguodala II in heading to Waco.
