The 2025 college basketball season ended just one week ago when Florida stormed back from a 12-point deficit to defeat the Houston Cougars in the national championship in San Antonio, Texas.
While the 2025 tournament is still fresh on our minds, the clock is already ticking toward the 2025 regular season getting underway next fall.
The Big 12 was so close to ending its three-year national title drought after winning it in back-to-back seasons, and even though the Coogs fell short this time around, the future looks bright for next season.
Jon Rothstein partners with FanDuel to present his “ROTHSTEIN 45,” rankings throughout the offseason, and they’ll continue to be updated as the transfer portal and NBA Draft pictures become clearer.
As with the majority of the other way-too-early rankings, Houston occupies the top spot in Rothstein’s latest rankings, but the other Big 12 schools are definitely pulling their weight, too.
Texas Tech comes in at No. 5 in Monday’s update, followed by Iowa State at No. 6, giving the league three of the top six teams in the rankings.
BYU is next at No. 10 after landing Rob Wright in the portal last week, while Arizona comes in at No. 12 with one of the most impressive incoming freshman classes in the nation.
There’s a bit of a gap after that, however, with Kansas being the next Big 12 school at No. 30. Kansas State is No. 34, followed by Baylor at No. 38, TCU is No. 41, and Cincinnati takes the final spot at No. 45.
That gives the league 10 teams in the top 45, but more impressively, five of the top 12 rosters in the country. With more portal additions to come, the rankings will continue to change, and in all likelihood, the gap between the top five and the next few Big 12 schools will begin to close.
