The Ohio State Buckeyes are officially the 2024 college football national champions after defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 34-23 on Monday night.

It's been a long road for Ohio State this season. They went 10-2 during the regular season, losing to the Oregon Ducks and their bitter rivals, the Michigan Wolverines.

This win made history for the Buckeyes, who are now nine-time national champions and also marked a major milestone for the Big Ten as a whole.

It is the first time the conference has had consecutive national championship winners since it had three in a row, when the Minnesota Golden Gophers won it in 1940 and 1941, and Ohio State won in 1942.

Of course, the Wolverines won it last year after beating the Washington Huskies 34-13 after dominant performances from running backs Blake Corrum and Donovan Edwards, who combined for 238 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

The Big Ten was also very well represented in the newly expanded 12-team College Football Playoff format, with four teams making it.

The four were No. 10 seed Indiana, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 6 Penn State, and No. 1 Oregon. The only one who did not appear in the second round was Indiana, which lost 27-17 to Notre Dame.
