For the last nine seasons, Brian Belichick has been a staff member with the New England Patriots.
A graduate of Trinity College in 2016, Brian Belichick got started as a scouting assistant with the Pats under his father Bill, the longtime head coach. After moving up the ranks, Belichick became the team's safeties coach in 2020, a position he held through this past season under new coach Jerod Mayo.
Now, he's moving on. According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, Brian Belichick will not be a member of hew head coach Mike Vrabel's staff.
"Brian Belichick, who spent the last five seasons as safeties coach, will be moving on from the Patriots in 2025," Reiss tweeted on Tuesday. "He initially served as a scouting assistant in 2016 and a coaching assistant from 2017-2019. Devin McCourty, among others, have spoken highly of his coaching acumen."
The obvious next step for Brian would be to head down to Chapel Hill and join his father's staff at the University of North Carolina. We'll see if that's in the cards.
"Really happy for my dad. I think a lot of people are really excited, including him," the younger Belichick said when his father took the UNC job in December. "It's going to be fun to watch. He loves coaching football. That's what he should be doing. It's really exciting. I'm really happy for him."
Bill Belichick is still in the process of finalizing his first coaching staff with the Tar Heels. Already, he has hired his son Stephen to be his defensive coordinator.
Himself a longtime assistant under his dad in New England, Steve Belichick spent last season as the defensive coordinator at the University of Washington. Previously, he won three Super Bowls while on staff with the Patriots.
Bill is also keeping holdover Freddie Kitchens as his offensive coordinator while bringing in longtime confidant Mike Lombardi as general manager, among other staff moves.
