Buffalo Bills running back James Cook missed multiple practices this offseason, with the running back looking to get his desired new deal.
And it eventually came, in the form of a four-year, $48 million contract, with the Bills offense now getting one of its key pieces tied down for the foreseeable future.
Some think that without No. 4, the Bills would struggle to win the Super Bowl, but now that he's back, it's business as usual for Josh Allen and Co.
Oh, and don't think offensive coordinator Joe Brady isn't ecstatic that Cook is back.
“Having Jimbo back, you saw how he plays and how he played,” Brady said. “You saw how he practiced, his approach, this guy, he's an absolute football player. While he wasn't here, you can see how important it was for him working. There's a lot of guys that might be holding out or holding in, but while they were outside of the building, they weren't getting ready to go, and I'm so excited.
"I don't think there was any difference with him like weight on the shoulder, he's still not smiling, not talking, he's still the same person. But I'm happy for him, I'm excited about another year, shoot, get to work with him for a few more years [as] part of this offense.”
Coming off another season where Cook surpassed 1,000 rushing yards, while having a whopping 16 rushing touchdowns (tied the franchise record), there is no denying how crucial he is to Buffalo's success.
Having missed multiple practices due to "business," the coaching staff must get him Week 1 ready with the Baltimore Ravens on the schedule.
It was looming as the one thing that could derail a season many think should end with Allen lifting the Lombardi trophy, but now it is all in the rear-view mirror, and Cook looks set to be the punishing back he has been for years.
Much to the delight of Brady.
