There was a double dose of bad news for Bologna, as Ciro Immobile will be out for two months and Nicolò Casale for three to four weeks.
The pair both sustained injuries during the opening round Serie A defeat to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday evening.
Immobile pulled up clutching his thigh after circa 30 minutes and it was immediately evident this was a serious problem.
Now tests have confirmed a lesion to the right rectus femoris muscle and the statement from the club warns the recovery time is circa eight weeks.
Casale also pulled a muscle just before half-time in the same match and was substituted during the break.
He has been diagnosed with a low grade strain to the hamstring in his right leg and the recovery time for the central defender is expected to be around three to four weeks.
With the transfer window set to close in Italy on September 1, it remains to be seen if Bologna will go back onto the market to find replacements.
