Brian Kelly Admits Truth About Big Ten vs. SEC

After Michigan and Ohio State claimed the last two national titles in college football, some have wondered if the Big Ten has officially unseated the SEC as the sport's best conference.

The SEC dominated the earlier part of the decade between LSU, Alabama and Georgia. But since the B1G's expansion, it appears it has quickly made up whatever ground it might've lost since the Buckeyes' first CFP championship in 2014.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, LSU head coach Brian Kelly talked about a potential Big Ten-SEC series in the regular season. And he admitted that the B1G has the leg up right now and the south would like to get it back.

"Look, the Big Ten right now holds it on the SEC. They've won the last two national championships. OK, that's the reality of it," Kelly said. "We want to get challenged in that regard, and we'd like to be able to get that done."

"That is up to our commissioner and the ADs to see if that can happen or not," he added. "But that's the wish of the room."

The SEC's scheduling has been a big point of contention of late as it decides whether or not it wants to make the jump from eight to nine conference games.

Kelly says he would be in favor of nine with the additional Big Ten game. However, it doesn't seem to be catching on with the powers that be despite most coaches being onboard.

"You've got to get a partner who says we're in for that, too," Kelly explained.

Commissioner Greg Sankey and the SEC's athletic directors are reportedly waiting on some of the rumored changes to the College Football Playoff before making any decisions.

However, it sounds like Kelly and others are hoping to compete head-to-head with the conference impeding on their standing as CFB's best.
