The Cleveland Browns wrap up their preseason today against the Los Angeles Rams, and the real thing is right around the corner.
When the Browns take the field in Week 1 at home against the Cincinnati Bengals, Joe Flacco will be the starting quarterback. There’s no telling how long the longtime veteran will hold that role, but he’ll get at least the first few games.
Cleveland has a crowded quarterback room. Rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders both flashed promise during the preseason, while Kenny Pickett enters his fourth year in the league after being acquired via trade earlier this offseason. Browns GM Andrew Berry appears comfortable doing something rarely seen in the NFL: carrying four quarterbacks into Week 1.
“Honestly, it’s not much of a decision for us,” Berry said during the live broadcast of the preseason finale against the Rams. “All four guys have done what we’ve asked, and we like everyone in that room. We don’t really see it as a problem — more as an opportunity.”
Browns GM Andrew Berry to @ChrisRose when asked about the idea of keeping four QBs on their roster: “Honestly, it’s not much of a decision for us. … We have a room that we like all the guys in there. We don’t really see that as a problem. We more see it as an opportunity.”

Of course, this could also be Berry’s way of nudging other teams to improve their trade offers for Pickett.
While the Browns appear content with four quarterbacks, many won’t believe it until they see it on the official roster. Pickett remains the most likely candidate to be moved. After being a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he spent two seasons there before backing up Jalen Hurts with the Philadelphia Eagles last year.
Cleveland traded Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a late-round pick to acquire Pickett, who missed the preseason with a hamstring injury. Though he got some work in during camp, his absence removed any realistic shot at starting Week 1.
For now, Pickett is the name to watch as roster cutdowns loom. By next Tuesday, we’ll find out whether Berry was serious about keeping four quarterbacks — or simply playing the long game.
