The Cleveland Browns opened rookie minicamp on Friday with all eyes on Shedeur Sanders. After falling to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft, the former Colorado quarterback will have the opportunity to prove himself over the coming months.
Browns GM Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski are dealing with an unconventional situation. Sanders and Dillon Gabriel were selected in last month's draft, forcing a five-man QB room going into training camp. The group also features veteran Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett.
In an interview with 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland, Berry explained the team's plans for managing the QB situation.
"Because we have two rookie quarterbacks, we are structuring it a little bit differently," Berry said. "We do want them to get a greater volume of reps than we typically do in a rookie minicamp. It's probably less about rookie minicamp and more about really taking advantage of opportunities really over the next four months."
Berry added Stefanski and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees will dive into the quarterback breakdown. In his first comments to the media during this minicamp, Stefanski said Sanders and Gabriel were “as advertised” throwing live today.
"I think that's less of an issue for us, internally. His big thing is making the team and earning a role. Listening to outside noise does nothing to accomplish those."

"Kevin and Tommy and the offensive staff have a really good plan around that, and that's probably even before we were in the world where we drafted two quarterbacks. We've typically taken four quarterbacks into (training) camp." He went on to say, "I think the plans that we have for training camp and the preseason, there will be plenty of reps to evaluate all four of those passers."
Berry was asked about Sanders' opportunity in Cleveland. It's clear he doesn't care about the narratives from the outside and is focused on getting the best QB under center this year.
"We're excited to have him," Berry said. "We spent a lot of time with him in the (pre-draft) process, he's a good kid, he's talented. We were surprised that he was available at No. 144 and we're excited to add him to the room. (Shedeur) got to compete and earn a role, just like Dillon, just like Kenny, just like Joe. We're excited to see that competition because we do have a number of players in that room that we have a level of belief in. That's really my focus."
