The Cleveland Browns have made a massive decision on rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The team has announced that they have signed him to a contract worth $4.6 million over four years.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news on social media.
There were rumors going around that Sanders could be cut before training camp, but this news likely puts that to an end. Sanders will now be looking to compete for the starting quarterback job in Cleveland.
The quarterback room for the Browns is very crowded, with multiple guys looking to go after the same job. Many expect veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco to be named the starter, but the backup job seems to be very open.
Former first-round pick Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel round out the quarterback room for Cleveland.
Sanders was taken in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft after falling on draft weekend. Many saw him as a potential first-round draft pick, but quickly in the draft, it became clear that teams viewed him differently than initially expected.
At Colorado last season, Sanders threw for 4134 yards with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His performance set off major interest from NFL teams and generated a ton of draft buzz.
Sanders was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year for the season, earning more accolades along the way. The Buffalos went 9-4 last season, ultimately losing in the Alamo Bowl to BYU.
Even if Sanders doesn't earn the backup spot for the Browns, his presence on the team could be electric. The amount of coverage that Cleveland will get makes his draft pick worth it, and he could always surprise people to become the starter one day.
