The Cleveland Browns made one of the more interesting selections from the 2025 NFL Draft, taking Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. After falling to the fifth round, the Browns decided that taking a chance on Sanders was well worth any risk.
Despite entering the draft as a likely first-round selection, the draft slip from Sanders still had him land with a team many expected him to. The Browns had been rumored to be interested in the former Colorado quarterback, and they were able to get him as a potential steal.
Cleveland has revealed the jersey numbers for their rookies ahead of the start of minicamp. Sanders will be wearing jersey No. 12, a nod to legend Tom Brady.
Brady has been a mentor for the young signal-caller, so Sanders will honor him by wearing his former number. If the Browns are lucky, maybe they will find their own version of Brady in Sanders.
While the quarterback isn't Brady, he does have a lot of talent to work with. Many NFL scouts did view him as a top pick in this draft before the epic slide.
Sanders will have to earn his spot with the Browns, however. The signal-caller is in a very congested quarterback room, so he will need to prove himself to the Browns coaching staff.
The Browns may not start Sanders right away, but he could earn his keep as the backup if he performs well. Cleveland has a good problem to have, and they will likely have an open competition to see who the starter to open the season will be.
