It has become patently obvious whichever way the Cleveland Browns go with the No. 2 selection in the first round on Thursday night. It appears as though they will select either Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter or Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. As an outside chance, a longshot, the Browns could select Hunter's college quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
If you ask Browns general manager Andrew Berry who he is going to select. He will tell you directly.
He has no idea.
“We’re still working through everything. We have not made a hard decision in terms of how we’re going to use the No. 2 pick," Berry said, via ProFootballTalk. “There are a number of guys that we like."
The Browns are considering from the three, among other options they are keeping close to the vest. Hunter appears to be the leader because he is so versatile and can play two positions. He satisfies two needs for the Browns who have a lot of holes to plug.
Hunter was a wide receiver and cornerback in college and won the Heisman Trophy in 2024. As a receiver he finished the season with 96 receptions for 1,258 y ards and 15 touchdowns. As a defender, he had four interceptions and 11 passes defended.
Carter is simply the best pass rusher in college football, bar none. He finished the season with 68 tackles and 12 sacks. He also had two forced fumbles and four passes batted down at the line of scrimmage.
Sanders appears to be a long shot at No. 2 with the additions of Kenny Pickett and Joe Flaco to the quarterback room. Experts doubt the quarterback position will be addressed by the Browns that high in the first round.
The NFL Draft starts on Thursday evening, April 24.
