Browns’ veteran safety has the perfect role for LeBron James to come to Cleveland and play in the NFL
David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Recently on social media, one big topic of discussion is whether or not NBA and NFL players could be successful in the opposite sport of which they play.

While many of the athletes wouldn’t be able to switch sports, there are a select few that very well could.

Cleveland Browns veteran safety Rodney McLeod has an idea for a player that could hold up in the NFL and perhaps could have ended up there if it was not for basketball.

LeBron James had college football interest as a high school standout on the gridiron, but everyone knew he was destined to be a basketball player. On a recent podcast appearance, McLeod had the perfect role for James to join the Browns and contribute

“We could use somebody to compliment [David] Njoku over there for sure. You could never have enough. I would say it’s good to have a great tandem,” said McLeod. “The only problem is, I’m not sure if LeBron is actually ready to take on a guy like a Myles Garrett just yet, put his hand in the dirt. So, we’re going to have to save LeBron for third downs, red zone, and passing situations. So, there might be some tells on offense, but it’ll be worth it.”

Something tells me that a 6-foot-8 basketball player who weighs over 250 pounds could find a way to get some blocking done on the gridiron. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer was a standout wide receiver in high school back in Akron, so his ball skills could translate nicely.

The chances of James ever playing in the NFL are zero, but hypothetically speaking the idea is at the least a very fun one. James has supported the Browns over the years but he’s done the same with the Dallas Cowboys as well.

Getting the GOAT of basketball to switch sports would be something made in movies. James is one of the few NBA players that could contribute something positive to the NFL. It would take some training and he wouldn’t be a star, but Kevin Stefanski could find somewhere for James to line up and be a mismatch problem.

Don’t expect James to make his way to the gridiron, but the idea is at least a fun one that we could cook up in Madden with customized rosters.
