The Tampa Bay Buccaneers bolstered their cornerback unit, already reeling from injuries, by signing fourth-year cornerback Tre Avery. This move comes just a day before their final preseason game of 2024. To make room for Avery, the team waived wide receiver Jaden Smith.

Tre Avery’s NFL journey began in 2022 when the Tennessee Titans signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers University. As a rookie, Avery made the active roster and started 3 out of 14 games, recording 29 tackles, 9 passes defended, and a fumble recovery. In the 2023 season, he started 2 games. Avery began the 2024 season on the Titans’ practice squad but was elevated to the active roster in October. He appeared in 9 games, mostly contributing on special teams with 3 tackles, before being waived by the Titans on December 2 8. Avery’s next stops included brief stints with the San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots before joining the Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers signed Jaden Smith early in training camp, and he went on to participate in the team’s first two preseason games. During that span, he caught one pass for nine yards.
