Penn State quarterback Drew Allar shared during his media session that he had an informal meeting with the Buccaneers at the Combine.

In response to a question asked by Pewter Report about sharing a quarterback room with Baker Mayfield, Allar expressed admiration for the Bucs’ signal-caller.

That would be really cool. Baker was one of my favorite quarterbacks throughout his time in college, and obviously watching his journey at the NFL. It’s cool to see where he’s at in his career, via Pewter Report’s Adam Silvon. “I actually watched a little bit of Tampa Bay’s offense when I was hurt, It was cool to see the things that they’re running and the things that he’s doing when he’s playing. He’s a guy that I try to take some stuff from his game.”

Allar got more specific and referenced the maturity Mayfield has shown over the course of his career and the respect he has earned from his teammates because of it.

The way he leads his team, the way I can just see that everybody cares for him and wants to go out and play with him is something that doesn’t go unseen to me,Allar said. “It’s really cool to see how he’s grown up through his Oklahoma days and obviously his NFL days and see the leader that he has always been and just see how he’s changed in his career.

While the Buccaneers routinely meet with quarterbacks at the Combine, actually using significant draft capital on one is a different story, especially with so many pressing needs elsewhere on the roster, particularly defensively. Given that this isn’t considered a strong QB class, any signal-caller the Bucs might target would likely be a later-round pick.

An interesting prospect, Drew Allar, a former 5-star recruit, was widely projected as a top QB pick this year. Unfortunately, his final collegiate season was cut short by an early ankle injury, which ultimately lowered his draft stock. Yet, the large-framed quarterback offers a big arm, over 7,000 career yards, impressive stature, and dual-threat ability.

The BR Rub

The Buccaneers do need to add to their depth chart at the quarterback position. And to be honest, nobody really knows what Allar is capable of due to him playing in a very conservative system at Penn State.

With Baker Mayfield being the current starter, Allar would be the backup. Is that something that Allar, and to an extent Mayfield would be comfortable with?
