Buccaneers Offer Positive Tristan Wirfs Injury Update

When the news of Tristan Wirfs' knee injury that could keep him out of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' first month of football, fans wondered if the team would ever catch a break injury-wise.

Given the offensive weaponry at Baker Mayfield's disposal, the Buccaneers, on paper, could have one of the best units in football, but only if Mayfield is given time to throw.

With Wirfs a mainstay along the Buccaneers' offensive line, having him miss potentially the opening month wasn't ideal, but in Tampa Bay's final preseason game, we didn't see Wirfs on crutches pre-game.

That has to be a good sign for Week 1, right? Well, head coach Todd Bowles, as always, played his cards close to his chest.

"It's a medical thing," Bowles said. "The fact that we're not putting him on IR, he's in play. I wouldn't say it would be week one, but he's definitely doing better."

That is a huge positive for the Buccaneers and the offense if Wirfs can get back sooner rather than later. Of course, the medical staff will play the cautious game with the stud lineman, but the initial thought of him missing a month might now be wide of the mark.

While Week 1 might be a bridge too far for the two-time All-Pro, after that? Yeah, he could be making a return.

The Buccaneers have been labeled as a dark horse for the NFC in 2025, and with Wirfs set to be back sooner rather than later, that is just the sort of pick me up the franchise needed ahead of what is a big year for the organization.
